Ken McAuthur on FTC Guidelines – Oh Boy!

Ladies,

My Friend and mentor Ken McArthur has an interesting post on how the government (FTC) is now regulating testimonials that affiliate marketers use.

If you are into affiliate marketing, blogging, or doing any sort of internet online business, you had better keep yourself knowledgeable and up to date on these new FTC guidelines. Stay head of the game and read the post @ Ken McArthur’s Learning Blog.

Here’s John Carlton’s take on the above matter John Carlton The Marketing Rebel Rant

What The Heck Is A Squeeze Page

I’ve been asked this question way too many times. What exactly is a squeeze page?

Well ladies, it’s exactly that. A one page website that is built with the intention of squeezing your name and email address in exchange for some sort of goodie. You see, the money is in your list. You may or may not hear that saying before. Some professional internet marketers use this method of marketing to build a list of subscribers who are interested in what they have to offer.

Have you ever seen a one-page site that basically tells you something like “Enter your name and email address for the latest, greatest secrets to blah, blah, blah?” They usually have some sort of description of whatever it is they are offering and a testimonial or two and that’s it.

You enter your name and email address on the one page website and they then send you whatever it was they promised and additional information they think you may be interested in.

Of course, I am simplifying for the sake of the blog post, you say. No. I’m not.

It’s rather simple. A squeeze page is a one-page website that is built with the intention of getting your contact information so that a list of subscribers is built to further contact with more valuable information. Is a squeeze page going to help you build relationships? No doubt.

I have learned from some of the most famous internet marketers that this is the way to go in certain instances. Others will argue that fact. It’s simply a matter of “what’s in your action plan?”

If your plan is to build a list of interested subscribers (and it should be) and you plan to advertise your website via pay-per-click to accomplish this task, you probably should use this method for more efficient tracking and to get the names and email addresses of those that want more of what you have to offer.

Is a squeeze page gonna help you in your business?  Sure will.

Soft and Pink Affiliate Marketing

Affiliate marketing is very attractive to many. Some even say it’s one of the
best and easiest ways to earn a living. (That’s up for debate.) However, as
competition gets tougher, you may want to consider distinguishing yourself
from those aggressive affiliate marketers.

Affiliate marketing is very attractive to many. Some even say it’s one of the best and easiest ways to earn a living. (That’s up for debate.) However, as competition gets tougher, you may want to consider distinguishing yourself from those aggressive affiliate marketers.

You know the type. I’m sure you get the emails. The greatest launch, the
newest this, the baddest that, by this and you’ll get this, click here and i’ ll promise you than. ALL THAT NOISE! Ten emails for the same product.

Competitors are promoting the exact same program, in the exact same zone or
some even on the exact same websites. ARRRGGGGHH!!

Sista, I say we change the game. We have no choice. I mean… I’m not wearing the same dress Shelly bought. And I damn sure wouldn’t wear those shoes that Lillie wore last night. You get my point. Let’s show ‘em what we got.

Some techniques and tools you may consider in order for you to stay in abreast in this business and have the chance at outwitting those simple minded competitors of yours:

I can’t say this enough times. Get you own website. It is very essential for you to have your own website when considering being a professional affiliate marketer.

Secondly, some customers visit websites to search and some visit website to purchase the thing they’ve already decided they want. For this reason, it is much easier to remember www.profitablesistas.com than a URL with tinyurl.com/beotqi33334.

Come one sistas…. Keep it simple. When you join an affiliate marketing program they usually give you promotional emails, banners and the sort. Well, who said you had to copy and paste. Add a little flava to the game. Spice it up a bit. Don’t go changing the entire thing. These folks know a bit about copy. But add a sidenote or two. Stick it on a template. Do something different. This way, your email won’t be one of the ten they see with the same headline in their email box before they open it. Remember, they are sometimes seeing the same promotions and emails over and over again. Besides, your primarily purpose is to attract or encourage people to click and read your ads and be curios enough to click through your website.

Tip: have some products of your own which are only available through your
website. A two-page report is simple enough. Once you have your website going, it is important to have at least one product or services that your customers can’t find with other affiliate’s site. You want your customers to keep coming to your site and the best way to do that is to have something unique on your site that they can’t find anywhere else.

Tip: try building relationship with people who already bought your product or
service. I mean, ultimately, these are the folks you are trying to help.

In my opinion, in order for you, as the marketer, to fully answer the query
of your potential customers, it is best to try and buy the product you are
promoting. You can better sell the product that you are trying to market. You
can share to your potential customers what a great experience you had with
the product, and this can make them interested enough to buy the product. You
may also be able to provide a support, if needed or you may provide a
confidential webinar or steps on how to use the product that you’re marketing
based on your personal experience.

Of course, you want to be totally honest about the product that you are trying to market. If you find out that the program you were endorsing is not top-notch, stop promoting it and inform your readers about it. This will help you build credibility with your lists.

Women all make mistakes and admitting your mistakes will boost your reader’s
confidence in you. You don’t have to be aggressive. You can just be you. The same you that uses bubble bath and lites candles, the same you that nurses the baby, the same you that knows when your man is lying…(just kidding).

You’re a perfect you. If you are aggressive, go for it. If you are soft and pink, there’s a place in affiliate marketing for you. Just be you. I’d venture to say that would be a great example of niche marketing.

Affiliate Marketing Commission Criterion – Who To Choose?

When thinking about becoming an affiliate marketer there is some basic knowledge required in making the decision process when searching for a product and/or company to endorse. Most of it is simple, while some of it can become a bit complicated.

Here’s what I learned today.

When thinking about becoming an affiliate marketer there is some basic knowledge required in making the decision process when searching for a product and/or company to endorse. Most of it is simple, while some of it can become a bit complicated. Note how I will use affiliate marketing and internet marketing interchangably.

When a sista is working as an affiliate marketer they need to establish a criteria. By criteria, I mean that a sista has to decide what exactly they are looking for in terms of commission from a company. Questions to ask yourself:

  • Do I want to be paid my affiliate marketing commissions weekly, bi-weekly or montly?
  • Do I want to my affiliate commissions to be in check form?
  • Do I want to earn a little bit of money – say 50% of a $20 product or am I looking to go high end and earn a few hundred bucks per affiliate sale?
  • Would I or have I used that that I am endorsing? (Be honest.)
  • Would I recommend this affiliate product to my friends and family? If not, should I really be endorsing it? Do I even care?
  • Do I even care when, where or how the dough comes in – just as long as it comes?

No two companies are alike. When establishing your criteria, it is a good idea to be selective. I mean, you are the one busting a sweat for the dime.

Internet Marketers

Some things to keep in mind. Some companies when establishing your criteria:

  1. offer recurring income.
  2. offer two-tier affiliate commissions.
  3. offer a one-time commission.
  4. will pay you for a lead.
  5. will track your visitor for a lifetime.
  6. will track your visitor for only 7, 14, 30 or 60 days.
  7. will take your lead and not pay you for it :_)

Let’s face it girls. We can go and select the first affiliate program we see. Or, we can do what we do so darn well, analyze and assess. That’s right. You know i’m telling the truth.

I went shopping the yesterday. I spent about 2 1/2 hours in macy’s digging and scruffing through the clearance racks, trying on and trying off all sorts of fabulous wears. Here’s a glimpse into my thought process during my tenure – “A black blazer (I need this for work), a sequin top (got a wedding to go to next month), a hot red miniskirt (gotta get shoes to match this).”

After all that time spent running back and forth to those cute little price checkers and dressing rooms, I decided that I didn’t want any of it. Why? Because that is what I do best. PERIOD. I’m a sista. Need you know more.

All of that was said to teach you what I learned about making the decision to work as an affiliate marketer and earn affiliate commissions. Let me repeat. A sista has to establish a criteria. You have to be selective in your choice of companies and/or products to promote – Just as you are selective about which shoes to wear with that black dress.

Once that criteria is established, it will be a lot simpler for you to scan a company’s profile, eyeball the commission rate and payout time and make a decision on whether or not to work at promoting that particular product and/or service. Uhmmm.

Here’s a short list of affiliate programs from which a sista can choose:

Thee Money Making Blueprint

Most of us have built a niche website at some point – a small content based website which includes AdSense and / or affiliate links to make money online.

Most of us also never took the “model” very seriously at all, thinking that there’s no way on earth people are getting rich doing this.

Well, there are folks that have taken this model seriously and are making some serious money at it.

The two guys who brought us BANS (or Build A Niche Store) have spent the past 6 months or so pouring their knowledge of making money with niche websites, into the 9 step guide that they call:

The Number 1 Way To Make Money Online

N1WAY as it’s often referred is, in a nutshell, a 118 page blueprint for making money on the internet.

While supporting thousands of users of Build A Niche Store, and also through the process of building 100’s of their own niche affiliate websites, these guys have over 4 years in “working” experience, and are cleaning up!

Now, wildly enough, you can know what they know for under 25 bucks.

A small price to pay for a “way” that’s enabled them to generate hundreds of thousands of dollars over the past few years.

With the N1WAY Method we identify “consumer search markets” to which we then target, serve and make money from by developing tiny content driven affiliate sites, often (but not necessarily) promoting eBay auctions.

Here are the steps that are covered in the guide:

Step 1: Learn to pick a market
Step 2: Create a website development strategy while researching the market further
Step 3: Learn to create valuable unique content quickly
Step 4: Step 4 goes into creating the website with using either WordPress with phpBay or BANS
Step 5: Shows you quick and simple ways to market your website on the Internet
Step 6: Shows you how to manage your website with a focus on minimizing the maintenance needs
Step 7: Goes through quick methods to replicate this process to create a network of websites
Step 8: Learn how to free up your time by outsourcing some of the more tedious projects and finding people that are begging to do them dirt cheap
Step 9: Finally, the path to building 7 figure ($1,000,000) networks is laid out for you
